ALL ARGUMENTS

Humans are superior to animals.

THE VEGAN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.

Better at spreadsheets. Not necessarily better at everything.

Humans can do things other animals can’t, like write essays and build rockets. No argument there. But being smarter doesn’t make it okay to hurt those who aren’t. We don’t treat babies or people with severe disabilities as if their pain doesn’t matter. A pig can’t vote, but it can still suffer. And the question is whether that suffering counts. You can still put humans first. That doesn’t mean animals count for zero. People really do disagree about how much animals matter, and science can’t settle that alone. So ask: what do we gain, what does the animal lose, and is the trade worth it?

THE KEY DISTINCTION

Being able to do more doesn’t make someone else’s pain matter less.
