Almond milk uses too much water.

THE VEGAN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.

Fair criticism. No drink gets a free pass.

Almonds can use a lot of water, and that matters most in places that are short on water. Being plant-based doesn’t make something impact-free. Food affects the planet in several ways: water, land, greenhouse gases and the local environment. A product can do well on one and badly on another. So anyone who claims every vegan food always wins on everything is overselling. If water is your worry, try oat or soy milk instead. Big studies help compare foods, but averages don’t describe every farm. One thirsty nut is a reason to pick wisely, not a reason to give up on plant-based eating.

THE KEY DISTINCTION

Compare several impacts, not just one product.
