What about vitamin B12?
THE VEGAN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.
Genuinely good question. Put that one on the board.
B12 is essential, and a vegan diet without it can lead to a real deficiency. That can be serious. So no hand-waving here. The fix is simple and reliable: fortified foods (like some plant milks and cereals) or a supplement. Seaweed and “natural” shortcuts don’t count. The NIH explains what B12 does and what happens when you don’t get enough. Fun fact: plenty of meat-eaters need B12 supplements too, especially older adults whose bodies absorb it less well. But that doesn’t make planning optional for vegans. If you have symptoms or a health condition, ask a doctor about the right dose.
THE KEY DISTINCTION
B12 is non-negotiable. Get it from fortified foods or a supplement.
