Plants have feelings too.

THE VEGAN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.

The lettuce has hired a lawyer. Allegedly.

Plants react to things. They turn toward light and send out chemicals when they get chewed. But reacting isn’t the same as feeling pain. A smoke alarm reacts to smoke, and nobody thinks it’s scared. Here’s the fun part: even if plants could suffer, eating animals wouldn’t help them. Farm animals eat plants too, often a lot of them. So if you really care about plant feelings, eating plants directly is the kinder option. To be fair, science hasn’t answered every question about consciousness. But “we’re not 100% sure” isn’t a reason to treat a carrot and a pig the same.

THE KEY DISTINCTION

Reacting to damage is not the same as feeling pain.
