Where do vegans get protein?
THE VEGAN HAS ENTERED THE CHAT.
Ah yes, the protein question. A classic.
Beans. Lentils. Tofu. Tempeh. Chickpeas. Peanut butter. Protein isn’t exactly hiding. Protein is built from smaller pieces called amino acids. Your body needs a full set, but they don’t all have to arrive in the same bite. Eat a mix of plant foods across the day and you cover it. The NIH’s own health encyclopedia says you don’t need animal products to meet your protein needs. One honest catch: a sad bowl of lettuce won’t do it. You still have to eat enough food, and enough protein-rich food. Athletes, older adults and anyone with a medical condition may need more planning or a chat with a professional.
THE KEY DISTINCTION
You need protein. You don’t need it to come from an animal.
